The Campbell County Fire Department has a long established commitment to the citizens of Campbell County. Community events such as the firefighter 4th of July community pancake feed, fill the Boot Muscular Dystrophy drive, and Christmas tree burn are only a small part of service given back to the community. We also drive State championship teams through the City of Gillette, enter the apparatus in parades, attend community children’s events, job fairs, as well as safety awareness programs offered through the business community. The months of October and November are set aside as Public Education classes are offered to elementary schools in the County.
All the mentioned events are secondary to the main purpose of the Fire Department and that is to answer emergency calls throughout the County. We accomplish each of our tasks through the dedication of our firefighters. The CCFD is a combination department consisting of structural, medical, rescue, hazmat, and wildland trained firefighters. We operate out of 10 structural stations, and 11 wildland support stations. These Stations are spread throughout the County, strategically and geographically located to best suit the needs of our citizens. Our volunteers, who cover these stations, come from every walk of life. The majority of our volunteers work in the various open pit mines that are located in Campbell County with the rest being educators, lawyers, law enforcement, business owners or laborers, construction workers of all types, oil field laborers, City and County employees, housewives, etc. These dedicated individuals give thousands of hours annually to help the Department in accomplishing its goals. They give their time knowing that in just a few hours they will need to return to their chosen occupations, many times with little to no rest.
As firefighters in Campbell County we are proud of our combination system and the benefits it provides to our citizens. There are not only a cost savings, but also more areas of our county more quickly covered, in the event of an emergency, especially with the large area that makes up our County. We train together as one department and we serve together as one department. We are proud of our accomplishments and the communities that we serve.
