The Campbell County Fire Department (CCFD) currently is accepting applications and resumes for the position of Captain (Engine Company Officer). 

The CCFD is an all hazards organization that is responsible for 4,807 square miles and approximately 50,000 citi-zens. We respond to all fires, hazardous materials, technical rescue, and life threatening emergency medical inci-dents. In 2021 the CCFD responded to 2,559 incident requests for service. 


Pay and Benefits 

  • Annual Salary Range: $71,697.60 —$110,468.80 

  • Certification Pay: Up to $2,400.00 annually 

  • Annual Paid Vacation Time: 127 hours accrued 

  • Annual Paid Sick Time: 127 hours accrued

    • 2.8% per year of service up to 25 years

    • Employer's Contribution 21.7%

    • Employee’s Contribution 4.05%

**Required Certifications** 

  • State of Wyoming Drivers License: Class B CDL w/ Tank endorsement and no restrictions

  • Pro Board (2016 or newer) or State of Wyoming Fire Officer 1

  • Pro Board (2016 or newer) or State of Wyoming Fire Instructor 1

  • Pro Board or IFSAC (2016 or newer) or State of Wyoming Hazardous Materials Technician or ability to obtain within one year

  • Current National Registry or State of Wyoming Emergency Medical Technician—Basic

  • NWCG Qualified Engine Boss

  • NWCG Qualified Incident Commander Type 5 

Entry Path B—External Applicants 

**Required Certifications or Ability to Obtain Within One Year of Hire** 

  • State of Wyoming Drivers License: Class B CDL w/ Tank endorsement and no restrictions

  • Pro Board (2016 or newer) or State of Wyoming Fire Officer 1

  • Pro Board (2016 or newer) or State of Wyoming Fire Instructor 1

  • Pro Board or IFSAC (2016 or newer) or State of Wyoming Hazardous Materials Technician

  • Current National Registry or State of Wyoming Emergency Medical Technician—Basic

  • NWCG Qualified Engine Boss

  • NWCG Qualified Incident Commander Type 5 

*The State of Wyoming Fire Marshals Office will not grant reciprocity for any IFSAC or Pro-Board certifications that are older than 5 years.


Applicant Testing Process 

  • Submit application, resume, and copies of certifications by May 4, 2022 at 1700 hours MST. 

  • Application review by CCFD personnel 

  • Testing will be held May 18th and 19th 2022 in Gillette, WY 

  • Invitations to participate in testing process (CCFD will notify selected candidates)

    • Not all applicants will be invited to test for the open position 

  • External and part-time candidates complete CCFD physical agility test

  • All candidates will take State of Wyoming Fire Marshal’s Office Fire Officer 1 Test

    • IFSTA Company Officer 6th Edition

    • 70% will be considered a passing score 

  • All candidates will take CCFD practical skills assessment for Captain 

    • Simulation Lab Evaluation 

  • Oral Interview Panel 

  • Chief of Department interview 

  • Conditional employment offer pending pre-employment testing 

    • Medical physical examination 

    • Pre-employment drug screening 

    • Psychological examination 

    • Criminal background check 

    • Interview of references from application 

    • Verification of employment and work experience of external candidates
