Deputy Chief – J.R. Fox

Deputy Chief, J.R. Fox, has been involved with The Campbell County Fire Department since 1994 when he started as a fire cadet.  In 1997 he became a seasonal firefighter and in 2008 he hired on full-time with CCFD.  J.R. has made it a point in his career to gain experience, education and training in order to be the best that he can be in his field.  He has held the role of Captain, Battalion Chief, Division Chief and in 2020 was promoted to his current role of Deputy Chief.

J.R. says that a career in firefighting is, “about serving the community and helping people.”  He enjoys that every day is something different and that there is always something to learn.  As a full-time firefighter with Campbell County Fire Department, J.R. likes the combination aspect of full-time and part-time personnel that the Department has to offer.  The way that CCFD is structured allows for the opportunity to see a little bit of everything.

When asked what advice he would give to someone interested in a firefighting career he shared that “Everything has to be earned, nothing is given.  Learning, training and education never stop. There’s always a goal to reach and something to do. It may not seem like it every day, but it is the best job out there.”

J.R. has live in Gillette since 1990 and loves the community.  When he isn’t working he enjoys spending time with his wife and three kids; they enjoy traveling and spending time outdoors.
